See you in Portland!

We on the CocktailCamp team would like to take a minute to publicly thank our generous sponsors for their support. Their contributions are making this event possible.

New Deal Distillery

First and foremost, I’d like to thank New Deal Distillery for hosting CocktailCamp 2010. Everyone there has been great; they’ve shown a real interest in helping to make this event successful. They’re almost as excited about it as we are.

Aviation Gin

We’re also excited to have Aviation Gin on board. I’m a big fan of Aviation so I was really happy to hear that Ryan wanted to get involved.

Imbibe Magazine

Finally, Imbibe Magazine, who I’m sure needs no introduction. I’ve been an Imbibe subscriber for years and it was great to learn that they’re interested in what we’re doing here.

Everyone else

Thanks are also due to everyone who’s bought their tickets so far, and everyone else who decides to come out on April 11. Community focused events like ours are only possible with your support. Thanks for helping make CocktailCamp successful.

You?

We’re not quite done yet! We still have lots to do to prepare for April 11 and we can use all the help we can get. If you’d like to get involved as a sponsor or just want to help out by donating materials or assistance, please look over our sponsor page and get in touch!

Presentation sneak preview

The presentation proposals are in and we’ve got some great stuff lined up for you. We’ve still got one slot open, so if you were on the fence before, see if this lineup helps you make your decision:

  • Andy Beach will be giving a course in Potionotics 101, explaining the science behind sweet and savory infusions of spirits and mixers.
  • Steve McCarthy will be talking about the past, present, and future of artisan distilling.
  • Robin Catesby and David Molner will lead a discussion of pairing food with cocktails.
  • We’ve got a tiki trifecta with Craig “Colonel Tiki” Hermann, Blair “Trader Tiki” Reynolds, and Matt “Rumdood” Robald teaching us about the rums, syrups, citrus, and spices that make up our favorite tropical drinks.
  • Dennis Hahn will be talking about cocktail party planning, from the drinks, to the food, to the music, to the decor.

If you have an idea for a great talk on whatever you’re passionate about, get your submission in now while there’s time. You’ll be in great company. We’ll be announcing our final lineup next Monday, so stay tuned.

Presentation deadline approaching

The deadline for submitting presentation proposals is fast approaching. We’ve got some great stuff so far and can’t wait to see what else you all come up with.

To recap, we’re accepting presentation proposals from anyone interested in speaking at CocktailCamp PDX, and on February 9th we’ll be picking out the six best ones. You don’t have to be a professional bartender or distiller or anything, as long as you’ve got something you’re passionate about and interested in shared it with the rest of us. Your proposal doesn’t have to be formal or anything, so don’t worry about writing up something elaborate, just give us a few sentences about what you do and what you want to talk about. We’ll take it from there.

Our six speakers will each get free admission to CocktailCamp (of course), your name, info, and link on the CocktailCamp web site, and a full page in the booklet we’ll be printing up for the event, which you can use to showcase your favorite recipe, little-known facts about your spirit of choice, or just about anything else you want.

We’re also looking for four bartenders to participate in our panel discussion and Q&A session. Get in touch if you don’t want to give a presentation but are interested in being on the panel.

The deadline for proposals is midnight on Monday, February 8, so get yours in now. You’ll be in good company and will have a great time.

Announcing CocktailCamp Portland

The wait is over! We are happy to announce CocktailCamp PDX, taking place on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at New Deal Distillery in SE Portland, Oregon.

CocktailCamp will feature a full day of presentations by some of Portland’s best bartenders, local craft distillers, and creative hobbyists, talking about the things that excite them in the world of cocktails, and will wrap up with a panel discussion and Q&A session. While all this is happening, we’ll also have space set aside for ad hoc conversations amongst attendees. Things will kick off at 10:00am and finish up at 5:00pm, followed by an after party at a location to be determined.

We are now accepting presentation proposals. If you’d like to get involved, tell us who you are and what you’d like to talk about. The deadline for submissions is midnight, February 8, and we’ll be announcing our five selections on February 15.

CocktailCamp is a community-focused effort and needs help from you to make it happen. If you’re interested in helping out, please read over our sponsorship information and get in touch.

Tickets are now on sale! You can buy your tickets for just $10 via Paypal on the CocktailCamp web site. Space is limited, so get your tickets early.
